I’ve always read about the never ending benefits of cold showers but I’ve always been selective on when I wanted to try it. I’ve always given excuses like it’s too cold to do it during this time and maybe I’ll do in during summer. I’ve taken a few cold showers during summer time but that was more because it was really hot out and didn’t give me that cold exposure and shock like you normally get with cold showers.
After finishing 75 hard, one of the task in phase 1 was daily cold showers. So regardless of the time of the year I had to just go for it. 15 days in I love it but also hate it at the same time. I definitely see the benefits of doing this daily and will more than likely continue on after finishing phase 1 of 75 hard.
Initial Shock – Are Cold Showers Easy?
Its easy when you look at it as a task but there’s always the initial shock when you turn that water on to it’s coldest setting. I’ve heard of others who jump right into it starting with the cold showers right away. For me personally I’ve done hot water to start my showers then when it time to soap up and wash off I’ll do the cold water temperature. I feel this contrast of initial hot then cold probably has other benefits in itself. I feel my core temperature also drop during this time.
I wear my garmin watch while I shower and I noticed my heart rate does tend to drop when I turn the water to cold. I also feel my body temperature drop. I’m essentially freezing when I get out of the shower which I like because it helps me get acclimated with the current colder weather. For reference I do live in San Diego so we don’t really get cold weather here lol. It’s actually in the mid 60s to 70s right now as I am typing this out.

There are a ton of benefits of showers but I’ll briefly discuss what I’ve been feeling from it.

Do Cold Showers Increase Productivity?
So far I feel it does for myself. The 5 minutes of the cold temperatures at times feel like a long time but once I finish I’m happy I did it and usually ready to take on the day. There are obviously a lot more things you’ll need to do with increasing productivity but in my opinion cold water showers add to it.
